New Year Resolutions 2015
Because tomorrow is going to be New Year Day and the brand new start of a new year, I have come up with a couple of New Year Resolutions/goals. Oh and not to forget, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
1. The first being of course, TRY NOT TO PROCRASTINATE. I know there's this quote saying, "Do or do not. There is no try." but honestly I cant commit to this resolution. Everytime I try to tell myself to stop procrastination, I cant help but do it. So definitely not able to guarantee but maybe I will reduce the number of times I procrastinate. :)
2. TO MAKE MY MUM LESS ANGRY. Sure maybe everyone thinks I'm a goody two shoes to my mum but honestly sometimes I just get thrown into this tantrum and I just make everyone around me unhappy and I guess my mum had it the worst because she's closest to me and basically I'm really sorry that my mum has to tolerate my shit for the last whole year.
3. TO MAKE MORE FRIENDS. Yes because from primary school to secondary school, my scope of social circle has certainly decreased. As in I now know a lot more people than I did back when I was in primary school. But back when I was in primary school, I practically knew everyone there. But now in secondary school sure I know a lot of people but the thing here is they dont know me and therefore we are not friends. So yup, definitely gonna make more friends and increase/broaden ^^ my social circle.
4. TO DO WELL IN ACADEMICS. Definitely a must. I didnt quite do up to my expectations/goals this year so definitely have to work harder next (this) year to bring my grades up. But I heard that coming to upper sec is really hard and a lot of people fail Math T.T Makes me wanna cry. But my mum and one of my seniors said that it's possible to do well, just because everyone else before you failed doesnt necessarily mean that you need to fail. If you work hard enough, you will still pass. :') It's so encouraging. Makes me wanna cry too.
5. TO DO WELL IN CCA. Err if you guys still dont know, I'm actually in the Environment Club of my school. And we have a blog too! :D But I have to wait till our seniors step down and we are in charge of the cca (and the blog) before I release the link because I dont want any of my seniors to know that I have a blog. XD (or else they might stalk) Anyway, I really think that I need to be more committed and passionate about my cca. Because the last two years I havent been giving my best, like I dont really attend events in my cca and yea, I just feel I'm not committed enough. So yup because next year, my level would be the leaders of the cca so yup totally need to be committed (and to set a good example for our juniors). I'm actually kind of worried for next year because of this leader thingy. I pretty much know that my seniors, they think pretty highly of me, but honestly, I just dont know, I'm not even the leader type of person. So I think I'm gonna try to you know, push the role of President away (to someone else). I'm totally fine with being Vice Prez anyway.
6. TO PLAY MY PART FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. Because back then, my only way to recycle my stuff is through school and so during the school holidays, I'm unable to recycle. But just this year, my constituency finally has recycling bins for the residents and so it becomes really convenient to recycle. If I go to school to recycle, I have to carry it for 5 mins before I reach the train station and another 10-15 minutes walk to school. Isnt it much more convenient to just walk 3 minutes and recycle your stuff? So I really hope that this year I would be able to recycle more and help balance up this waste production cycle going on in the world. Maybe everyone says that I'm only one person, one effort but so what? Even if it's one person, it still helps to offset the cycle by a bit, sure a bit, but at least it's better than doing nothing.
7. TO WRITE MORE BLOG POSTS AND ALSO TO GAIN MORE READS. It's really nice to finally find somewhere where I can share my thoughts and ideas. And even nicer to know that people are reading them. I hope that this year would be a better year for my blog. :)
Ta da and that is pretty much what I hope and wish to achieve for the new year! Everyone strive hard to make year 2015 the year you want it to be. Happy New Year! :D

Blog Post #7
Trying to Inspire with Art
So because every time I go on social medias and see my feed filled with beautiful artworks (because I follow people who do art-because I like art), I would scroll through the comments and see all the wonderful praises from the followers of the artist. And most of the comments go along the line of "You inspire me with your art" or "You are so talented" but what I actually want to focus on is the first line. So after looking through so much of these comments, I actually start pondering like hey what do they mean by inspire? Do they mean like the artist inspires them to draw? Or do they mean that the artist inspires them to do something (eg save the environment; chase their dreams)? Or is it a combination of both of them? Sometimes the word "inspire" is so ambiguous.
But regardless of whatever they mean (I assume they meant both), I actually tried out inspiring people with my art. Which I'm not sure if it works because I havent really shown them to anyone but I guess my artworks mostly inspire people to do something and not really inspire them to draw. They aint very nice but I hope it inspires!
Oh and I did this "project" during the time I was hooked up on this drawing app called "Sketchbook Express" which is actually really fun. Like it's this drawing app where you basically just draw whatever you think. And it's good because it's also tech friendly so you know you dont waste ink drawing and if you are unsatisfied, no paper wasted just a click of a button. Yea, so I was actually pretty addicted to it for a while but I decided to embark on this "Inspiration Project" so yea all my drawings in this project are drawn using this drawing app.
So here comes the first one.
So this one actually came about when I was just randomly doodling a rainbow because I was actually testing out the colours and yea so I drew the rainbow and then later thought about my project so I coloured everything else grey and wrote those words. So what this drawing actually wants to reach out to is to tell everyone that no matter how hard life is, it's always going to get better or there's actually some good things in your life and you should focus on them instead. So yup.
So this one came about when I was just drawing grass. Yea. Simple as that. Drawing grass. Then I just decided to add the soil in. And add in a couple of ducks. Then I came across the idea of my project and decided to add a man with a gun in the background. Yea then I just filled up the white space with blue as the sky. Pretty simple and silly cause like hunting isnt really about killing ducks. I mean killing ducks are considered hunting but seriously when someone mentions hunting, you dont exactly think of ducks. But nonetheless still hope this picture inspires.
Third one on smoking.
This one is to encourage people not to smoke. And honestly people who smokes just puts me off. The smell and the harm of smoking. Sometimes I wonder why people smoke. It harms you. It smells bad. It makes you smell bad. Why? So this is just a little drawing to encourage people not to smoke. And yea maybe you guys would feel this is a little under expectation because maybe you expected me to draw lungs and scary parts to scare smokers away from cigarettes but to be honest, my drawing skills aint good for that. Besides it actually takes skill to draw on drawing apps. I find it really hard to make detailed drawings that's why all the stuff you see here are brief.
Four one on a quote I really like.
I really really like this quote because it's really so true. Like it's important to do what you love, your passion, your interest. But it's also important to love what you do, to take pride in everything you do. So yup really love this quote. And really like this drawing also because it is different from the rest because of it's black background. Yea it's like drawing on black chalkboard.
This one came about when I was just drawing the gigantic lollipop and decide to add a stick man holding on to it. I guess I wanted to label myself as the stick man but meh. Somehow the stick man looks as if he's struggling to hold on to the lollipop so I used the turquoise and different shades of blue to create a confusing background and ta da the message of this drawing is to hold on to your dreams no matter how life tries to tug it away from you. It may be a big dream, so much bigger than you can possibly handle. But anything's possible if you want it to happen. So dont ever give up your dreams. Yup and that's the end of my "Inspiration Project". Haha yes it's so little. But at least I made five.
So doing this project was really fun because it was a new thing. Drawing on apps, that is. And honestly speaking, I still am not quite sure what "inspire" means but I really like the feeling of my drawing "inspiring" others. And sure maybe these drawings are brief and simple, but still hope it "inspires" you in one way or another.
And I guess I shall share a couple of other drawings I did. The first one...
Oops. He doesnt feel too well. Haha okay but this drawing started out when I was drawing the infinite sign (look the eyes). By the way, this was the second drawing I made using this app. The first one was something like this but because I didnt think about saving it so I lost it. Haha this drawing is so cute. And err the guy has like this weird head shape that makes it really funny. For some of you guys who cant really see it, the green thing is actually his blanket and he's in bed. :)
The second one...
This one is honestly super random and I did it when I was super bored. So yup here we have a merlion-cat. And the blue squiggly lines are the sea. Have no idea why I did the violet background. Then we have them birds. Then we have the sky and the sun. Haha super random I know.
Third one..
This one was actually inspired by The Duck Song. And yes XD I didnt draw the guy cause 1) I have no space 2) He's kind of complicated But seriously, I really love this song, sure it doesnt make much sense but it's kind of a childhood thing. And yup, pretty much the longest time I took to draw a picture (on the app).
Haha okay this one was inspired by the song "Sleeping Child" by Michael Learns To Rock. So yup I drew a sleeping girl with her hair spread all around her under a beautiful blanket. Haha not that pretty but yea. So what's cool about this drawing is that it is like a small part of a big picture. Yea so I kind of enjoyed drawing it.
Fifth one...
Haha just got around trying to draw some dark stuff and came up with this. Then I decided to add some colour to add in to the atmosphere. Take a look below.
Seems like everything looks nicer with colours. And it's indeed really amazing what colours can do to our art.
Haha yes it's a banana. Just didnt really know what to draw but feel the need to draw so I got inspiration from fruits.
Eight...
Here's another fruit. Please welcome the watermelon! When I send this to one of my senior, she replied asking me who Avery is. And I decided to tease her by saying Oh Avery is my imaginary friend, you know, the one everyone has when they were a kid. To be honest, I never had the chance of having an imaginary friend. But that led her to think she's abnormal and stuff. She's really funny. But yea, this actually reads "A very legit slice of watermelon"
Mighty nine...
This drawing is entitled "Geography Love" in tribute to the subject. It is really one of my favourite subjects and I'm so lucky I do well in it. Some people love a subject but sadly they dont do well for it and have to drop it despite their passion. So yup, dont you all just think geography is interesting? It's learning about the earth and the environment around us, learning about human geography, farming, tourism that makes it all so fun because it's just so relevant to everything around you. And besides, this is a drawing I made for my class to encourage them to do well in geography the day before the exam. By the way, I'm actually the geography rep of my class XD.
This was a picture I made because of Halloween. Yup, tribute to Halloween.
This is one of the most interesting drawings I have drawn and I dont think that anyone quite understand this drawing except for myself. So it started off when I was drawing this weird shape thingy and somehow transformed it to become a head of a creature. I call her the mother. And those dark blue droplets are actually her tears. That's how the name came about. Then I painted the background blue because it has the sad atmosphere and also because it symbolises water which kind of links to tears. Haha I'm probably not making sense. XD But then later I added the stick man in the background to symbolise that the son is walking away further and further from the mother and that also explains why she's sad. It's totally okay if you dont get this. Just look at it as a weird picture.
Twelve...
This is just another picture of a duck. Apparently, I was obsessed with ducks at that point of time. See if you can spot the clouds. :)
Yup and that's the end of this blog post. Hope you will try out this app because it's really fun. And if you didnt notice, I used the spray paint effect for most of my drawings because I really like that blurry distant feel it gives my pictures. Yup go try it out and maybe you can tell me about your experience. :D

Them blood makes it more murderous. Actually i didnt quite understand why I added the black spray paint effect there. But I guess I did it because it seems more real. Nah it's okay. Even I dont know what I'm saying.
Sexy six...
This one owes its birth to my messing around with the symmetrical function. By the way, the symmetrical thing is really super cool. So yup, I drew a girl and decided to add in the Superman icon. Have a look at it in colours.

Merry Christmas 2014
Merry Christmas 2014
Tomorrow will be Christmas! And Merry Christmas to everyone! There, I crocheted a christmas tree for everyone. :D
So because Christmas is tomorrow and Santa's gonna be coming around tonight. I have some things to wish for.
1. I wish that I have endless supply of yarn. And endless supply of sour snacks. This is pretty self-explanatory because I just love crocheting and eating sour snacks.
2. I wish that I have a better smile. Like as in I can smile more nicely. Cause right now, I'm actually you know, working out on smiling to everyone I see. As you know from my previous posts. But I'm not saying that hey if you dont have a nice smile, your smile doesnt count. It's not like that. As long as the smile comes from the bottom of your heart and is sincere, it's a nice smile. But because I dont have a very nice smile, I tend to feel pretty self conscious when I do. So that might kind of limit my smiles. If you get it. But anyway guys keep smiling :D
3. I wish that I have magical drawing skills that would wow people from half a globe away. Honestly, I probably dont want it for long but maybe a week or two would be fun. :)
4. I wish that I have more time. But no kidding, who doesnt wish that? But also honestly, time is really precious but I really need more of it so I could spend more time doing stuff that I like. And probably spend more time on my studies and get better grades. Sure, they always say Einstein, famous people who had achieved great things, have the same number of hours in a day that we do. So why cant we achieve those great things? Haha probably because of procrastination. But I guess that will be one of my new year resolutions.
5. I wish that I have a magical power. That when I sleep on books, the knowledge in the books would magically transfer to my brain like diffusion. Haha that would be so cool. We wouldnt even need to spend time studying anymore.
Haha sure maybe these wishes wont ever come true but that doesnt mean that we stop believing in Santa and stuff. Sometimes, believing is our only hope.
Some wishes that I have for my family.
1. I hope that everyone in my family is happy and healthy.
2. I hope my sibling does well academically next year. And counting.
3. I hope they all have a long life (more for my grandparents).
Some wishes for the world.
1. I hope that everyone can produce less waste and save the environment.
2. I hope that animals around the world have a safe natural environment to live in.
3. I hope for world peace.
Yup, that's pretty much the things I wish for. I would probably give like a little blog post to describe each of the world wishes so you would kind of understand. And that's the end of my blog post. There, I made a drawing as well. :)
So last but not least, I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas (and a Happy New Year). Thank you for reading this blog post.

Blog Post #6
Blog Post #6
So today's post would be on my favourite activities. So basically stuff I like to do. And yea, hopefully you guys would maybe get to know more about me and also try out some of these activities. :)
1) Sleep
Like honestly, nothing beats having a quick nap and resting. Sometimes, I basically just love sleeping because when I sleep, I dream. And I love dreaming.
See that? That's me dreaming in process! Nah, just kidding. I just thought it would be fun to insert little images into my blogs. But honestly, the reason why I love dreaming is because after I wake up from my sleep, I can actually recall what happened in my dream back then when I was sleeping. Yea, I know it's pretty cool. But I'm really not a lucid dreamer. My best friend says that I can actually train to be one but nah. I like things the way it is now. And actually, I'm not aware of myself dreaming at the time I'm dreaming. I just happen to remember briefly what my dream is about. And I cant remember every detail but I can tell the outline ocouldn't believe our eam. And also, I cant actually control my dreams. Unbelievable of my drethey are really funny and interesting. And that's also why I phenomenoneamicouldn't come here's an interesting dream I had recently:
Okay. so my friends and I, we were on an excursion trip to this guy's workshop. I cant remember what the guy does in his workshop or even how he looked like. But I just know we went into this wooden house where the owner of the workshop, who was pretty old by the way, was waiting for us. And I cant even remember what we did in the workshop but I just remember that when we were supposed to leave, we were so attached to the workshop that we didnt want to leave. So the owner of the workshop told us that before we leave, he would show us something interesting. And so we were all excited and stuff. And he said,"Well, if you follow this staircase all the way to the top and open the door, you would find a surprise waiting for you." And so all of us rushed up the staircase, me being at the top because I was super curious. And so we climbed and climbed up the wooden stairs, without any fear of falling because we were all too excited about the surprise. And when we finally reached the top, we opened the door and guess what, we couldnt believe our eyes. We were right back at the first floor again. Unbelievable aint it? Haha so I woke up and I thought really hard for an explanation but I just couldnt come up with one. But aint it interesting?
2) Drawing, Painting, Sketching
Seriously, my life cant do without art. But mostly, I really need that motivation/inspiration or that "art mood". So say if you know, I'm in that "art mood", I would actually just put everything that I'm doing down and just draw. Cause these moments are just so rare these days. Honestly speaking, art is something that I cant force. So say if I dont feel like drawing at the moment (I dont get that "art mood") but I force myself to sit down and draw, perhaps someone's birthday is coming up, my drawing wouldnt be as good as if I were to be in that "art mood". And I honestly dont know how my "art mood" comes about.
Here's a couple of drawings I did when I'm in "art mood":
![]() |
| Giraffe |
![]() |
| Lion Feasting On Animal |
![]() |
| Mockingbird (1) |
![]() |
| Mockingbird (2) |
I think the first two came about when I was studying Biology. And the next two came about when I was reading "To Kill A Mockingbird". So there, drawing is a really nice thing to do. And always remember, that everyone can draw. It's just a matter of how good you are at it. Practice makes perfect so keep persevering.
3)Eating
Eating always makes you feel better. And happier. Everyone loves eating. No description required. :)
4)Blogging
Although I hate writing commitments, I actually find myself looking forward to blogging everyday. And I try to. Blog that is. But it's kinda hard what with the homeworks and stuff. And I guess the reason why I like blogging was because this is the only way I can voice out my opinions without interacting. Remember my post on how I hate interacting. Yea, I had to share my opinions somewhere and blogging just seems to fit me. Honestly, to all the people who havent started blogging, try it. It's really fun to you know, being able to share ideas and opinions with people. If you have no idea what to write, you could maybe start with an intro about yourself. Or maybe you could start your blog with something that you feel really strongly about.
5)Crocheting
Crocheting is really so fun I encourage everyone to crochet. It doesnt even matter what gender you are. Crochet is for all. And honestly, when I crochet, my hands dont hurt at all because I'm just so concentrated on what I'm crocheting. Up till now, I'm still too beginner to write patterns but I hope that I would be able to write successful patterns in the near future. :)
So here's a bit of my crochet works:
![]() |
| Bunny Appliques (Here's the link: http://lovethebluebird.blogspot.sg/2012/04/spring-bunny-tutorial.html) |
![]() |
| Sunflower Motif (Here's the link to the pattern: http://make-handmade.com/2011/09/13/craft-lessons-sunflower-motif-crochet-tutorial/) |
![]() |
| Snowflake Motif (This pattern is by New Stitch a Day.) |
![]() |
| Crab Amigurumi (The pattern can be found on Yarn Yard.) |
So I kind of capture crochet in four different photos. So there are mainly three types of stuff you can crochet. First are appliques, second are motifs and third which is also the most popular, amigurumis.
Appliques are just these one piece flat designs which are usually pretty simple and you can use it to decorate bigger crochet projects or clothings. Motifs on the other hand are pretty tedious and basically, it's just about repeating the steps over and over again but with bigger numbers but ultimately the same steps. Pretty tedious and tiring but when you see the end product, everything is worth it. Motifs can be really pretty. Amigurumis are just basically stuffed toys. I hope this kind of spark of your interest in crochet and perhaps, one day you would try it out. :D
6)Watching Clouds
Believe it or not, watching clouds can actually make all your worries go away. Because it needs a lot of concentration. Sometimes, clouds move so slowly you are hardly aware that they moved at all and that's why they require a lot of concentration to notice that change. And while you watch them, you just slowly drift-ly forget your worries. It helps you think about life in general too. Not to mention it's really fun.
7)Watching Videos/Movies
Watching stuff have always been really nice cause it's like you are finally able to relax and enjoy a video or a movie. And yea, I always enjoy these moments. Videos that I like to watch are stuff like 10 types of _______, or vlogs, or crochet tutorials, or painting tutorials. Recently, I have been really interested in "Draw My Life" videos.
As for movies, I really like to watch them because it's like that special treat that you give yourself once in a while. So you just relax in your room, snuggle with your stuff toy and enjoy a movie. I dont quite like watching drama series or those seasons shows. Cause like after you watch an episode, you have to continue to watch more. And sometimes you know, movies are supposed to be that "special treat" for me. So if it comes too easily, it kind of loses its value or motivation. Yea.
One movie that I watched this holiday was Edward Scissorhands and it's really such a nice show. (Besides, I'm a big fan of Johnny Depp.) But seriously, this movie is really nice. The music was really nice. And my gosh, I'm just so in awe of Edward Scissorhands' smile. Cause his smile is just honestly so cute. (Cuteness overload XD) It's like that process of his smile that I'm in love with. That face he has then just when he found something interesting and funny, his lips twitched up to form that little kid-like, shy smile. I always found his smile interesting and special. Like so cute. Haha but enough about his smile. Just go check out this movie, I guarantee it would be worth your time. :D
8)Reading
I have always love reading since young and I still do a lot. Except, I just think that I rarely read this days cause I'm always so caught up with schoolwork and stuff. And besides, I find it really hard to look for interesting books in the library nowadays.
So for now, I'm currently reading this book, "Misdirected" by Ali Berman. And from what I see, I really like the looks of this book. It's honestly a really interesting book. And after I finish this book, I would probably write a book review on it. It's highly recommended. :D
9)Taking Walks/Exercising
Taking walks and exercising is a really nice thing to do. Like after your work and you are tired and stuff, it's nice to relax for a while and watch the things around you. The people around you, the stuff that happens, the things around you. Usually during these moments, I would actually take this time to "clear my mind". So sure, for me, these moments arent really those moments where I abandon my homework and stuff and just 100% relax so during this time, I still think about my work but I kind of "clear my mind" because before, I might be really messed up and tired, so now is really the time for me to you know, make things less messy. It helps, really.
10)Showers
Showers are really effective in making yourself feel better. Cause when I'm tired but I dont have time to sleep, I always head for the shower. Because it's the second best thing next to sleeping. Like, honestly, after a shower, you just feel so fresh and clean and energetic and ready to take on the world.
Hopefully, you may like to try out some of these activities. (For example, crocheting or watching clouds) And maybe you can tell me what are some activities you like to do. :)

People I Admire (1)
People I Admire (1)
So I have decided to start this series of blog posts where I write about people I admire. I dont think there's really any one particular person so I guess it would just be a group of people. And today's post would be AUTHORS!!!
Yay authors. I honestly, truly, from the bottom of my heart, think that authors are one of the most admirable people in this whole wide world. And there's this one quote I really want to share with you guys: "Writers are those who finish things." And to me, I feel like I can totally understand this. Because as you guys know, I just cant seem to be committed to writing and really just for this fact alone, I admire those authors for being so perseverant to complete their writing no matter whether they are sick of the plot, they feel discouraged, they still finished it. So kudos to all the authors out there, famous or not, I admire you! And of course to other people who also write, good job! You earn my admiration.
Honestly, I cannot write a book to save my life.I did have the notion to do so before and I had plenty of ideas but when I actually started writing the first chapter, I found it so hard to continue the next chapter. Not to mention the editing. So, I have never written a book in my life so far and I might never but I will always respect and admire those who accomplished the mission of writing a book. And Harper Lee is one of the authors I really admire.
Harper Lee is a great lady to write a book about racial discrimination (To Kill A Mockingbird). I learned a lot from her. Like what a trial scene looks like. She devoted her time and energy into writing such a wonderful book and I admire her for that. Sometimes, I got to thinking why Harper Lee didnt write more books; what a waste in talent but maybe, this book wouldnt have been that good if she had diverted her energy in writing more books.
Another author I really adore is Lee Child. Thats his pen name. His real name is Jim Grant. Yea, his thriller series are totally amazing and Jack Reacher is my all time favourite book character. Yup totally worth it to check it out. Though I'm not sure if girls would like it.
So that's all for this post. And totally, people who write, please give a round of applause to yourself. Look out for the next post in this series! :D

So today I wasnt really in a good mood because my mum made me go shopping for groceries early in the morning. And when I was at the counter paying for my goods, I was a little unsatisfied with the cashier's service. She was actually speaking to her colleague loudly about how it's lunchtime already and the cashiers on lunch duty hasnt arrived yet. I supposed maybe she's hungry but she was still a little unfriendly. She packed my groceries for me and when she scanned the last item, I saw that it was $17.05 so I took out a five cents but she gave me this really weird look and so I looked at the total amount again and I realised it was actually $17.40. So I was kind of embarrassed and yea, I was just pretty unhappy that you know, the cashier could have been nicer about it. Like maybe laugh it off or tell me nicely. But no. And after she gave me my change, I said "Thanks." And she didnt even bother to thank me back. Because mostly, when you buy things, the cashier would always tell you "Thanks." and I say it back because I wanted to show the cashier that I'm thankful for his/her service. So even if a cashier doesnt say "Thanks." , they would still say it after I say it. So that got me a little unhappy when I walked home.
But then later on, I sat the lift with a couple of kids and their maid. And when I entered the lift, I told one of the boys who was near the lift buttons to press my storey number (I was carrying a lot of groceries and they are heavy). He actually stumbled a bit trying to find my storey number because maybe he was used to pressing his own floor number. And it was kind of funny watching him. But then later when the lift reached my storey, he actually pressed the lift doors open for me and I thought it was really sweet and considerate of him to do so. Because mostly if you take the lift with one of the neighbours living in your flat, and if they live in a storey higher than yours, they will just mostly stand to the back of the lift and wait for you to get out. So it was actually a really nice gesture by the boy and it got me smiling again. :)
So I just thought about how you know, little things in life can actually lift your mood up or bring it down. And mostly, your mood in a day largely depends on the people you meet. So if you meet a nasty cashier/taxi driver, it can really bring your mood down. And if you meet a nice vendor, a sweet little boy, it can also lift your mood up.
And after today, I realised that from today onwards, I'm going to try to lift the mood of everyone I meet. By giving them a smile, saying greetings or even small gestures like pressing the lift doors open for them. And I encourage you to do the same too! If everyone in the world does that, wouldnt it be happier for everyone?

Blog Post #4
HI so today's blog post would be a little about myself.
So I grew up as a kid who loves to make friends. And I was super friendly and I love to talk to people so making friends wasnt a hard task for me. I used to actually play with random little kids my age at the playground. So when I went to kindergarten, it was actually quite an excitement for me because I'm getting to meet more friends. And kindergarten went by pretty quickly. We played and talked everyday at school. We mixed around and I'm quite pleased to say that I was friends with everybody in the class. But we grew up all too quickly and had to move on to primary school.
Primary school was a total whole new experience for me basically because the school hours are longer and most of the time, you spent it with your friends. And I did make a lot of friends when I first started out in Primary 1. So I didnt just know kids from my class, I knew kids from other classes as well, mostly because I sit in the school bus (so I have my group of friends who took schoolbus) and we change classes during mother tongue lessons (so I have my group of friends who studied chinese with me) and lastly I joined a puppetry workshop (it's like a short term cca) (so I have my group of friends who joined puppetry). So school was a pretty fun thing for me because of all the people I know. Gradually throughout that 6 years, I actually pretty much know everyone in my cohort. And I dare say it's because of the Eco-Logic Club cca which I took part in my upper primary years. That exposed me to a whole lot seniors and juniors.
Then come secondary school. Maybe at the start, we were all excited to go to secondary school, because it seems as if going to secondary school is a big deal! (You are all grown up and stuff) But then the excitement eventually die down and we seem to dread it. Basically in my first year of secondary school, I was actually kind of having fun with my classmates and stuff. but it was really a whole new experience for me because all my life I was in a co-ed school and now suddenly poof! I'm in an all girls school. So the experience is really different (that would be a topic for another blog post) and I get to make new friends too. And because in secondary school, it usually requires us to travel home, we kind of like go home together with friends. And I was okay with it at the start. But then comes Year 2.
Year 2 which is 2014 was a really changing year for me (another topic to write on) and I began to realise a lot of my dreams and stuff and I actually learn more things about life and become wiser. But yea, I guess this is also the year where I start changing. And somehow along the way, I kind of became quieter, less opinionated (I still am pretty opinionated but I just dont voice out anymore) and most of all, I think I have come to hate interacting. So back then in those days, I would be glad to go home with friends, go out with friends, say hi to a long-time-no-talk friend. But now, I just hate the idea of interaction. So these days, I actually rejected a lot of movie outings and I give all sorts of excuses (my friends would probably kill me if they ever know this) just so I can dont go out with friends. And I hardly even go home with friends anymore. Why? Okay look, I used to have this personal rule, actually I still hold it to heart (it's just I never got to use it much now that I have decided to become a loner) but this rule states that if I were to go home with friends, I would want to entertain them and interact with them, but if they so much as took out their phone without it ringing or vibrating, I have failed. So I think in the long run, I kind of got tired of having to "entertain" my friends and I think that you know I would actually be better off on my own. Lastly, if I see a long lost old friend of mine from a distance during my journey to wherever, I would rather take a detour, the long route just so I wouldnt have to meet this friend and talk to him/her. That's just how bad it is. Like I would rather walk more than to have just a friendly talk.
I kind of dislike myself now for being so anti-social and such but honestly I dont know why I'm becoming like this. Right now, I'm going to start Year 3 in the next school term and we are gonna have new classes and that means new friends and ice-breaker games (I hate ice-breaker games). I'm actually dreading the idea more than looking forward to it. :(
And that is the end of my blog post about how anti-social I have become over the years. Please feel free to comment below if you would like to share your experience and stuff. Any tips and suggestions would be great too! :D

Alright. So I was thinking a lot about words recently and how it's used. And I realised that a lot of people like to use exaggeration. For a certain example, "I'm so tired I'm gonna die." It's alright to say this once in a while but I found out that people are using it too much and it's overused. Like everywhere, you hear people saying it. I mean of course the people who use it dont actually mean it but imagine what it sounds like to people who are actually going to die. How would they feel about it? There are people who are actually dying out there and people here are saying it like a joke.
Another phrase I heard a lot was "I'm so hungry I'm gonna die." Similarly, I have also read a magazine article by a magazine editor and he talks about kind of what I'm talking about now. I cant find that article anymore though but I was actually kind of convinced by the editor. That's why I'm writing this post. In his article, he talks about people overusing this phrase and not knowing the effect of it; that somewhere out there, people are actually starving from hunger.
Maybe you think it's ok to use hyperbole. It's a literary device after all. But these things are so overused they dont have the effect anymore. There's no more value to that word anymore.
Come to think of it, words are like goods. If goods are in high stock and there's a lot of it, the price and value of it decreases. But if it is rare, then the value increases. Say for example the word Sorry. If someone uses the word Sorry too frequently, there's no value to the word anymore. Why? Say if this person says Sorry countless times to the person sitting next to him because he bumped him with his elbow countless times. And the next time, he feels really apologetic to someone else and says Sorry. This Sorry doesnt carry much value anymore. Sure maybe the person is sincere but you cant exactly feel the sincerity in his apology because it comes too easily. To get an apology from him is so easy, it's not even precious.
And after you hear everyone say it so casually, it doesnt even have that exaggeration effect anymore. I'm not trying to tell you to stop using this phrases and it's perfectly fine if you carry on to use them. But just remember, words have values too :)

Hi guys. So today's post is about a realisation I have realised after some time. For many years, I have been wondering why people who were good at art like to be "humble" and push away praises given to their artworks. I mean not all artists I know is like that, but at the very least, we all have that one friend who waves away your wonderful remarks. It goes something like this:
You: Wow, this is so beautiful! How could anyone possibly do that with just colour pencils?
Artist: Nah, it's nothing. (Do you see that waving in process?)
You: What do you mean it's nothing? It's not nothing. It's, you are just fantastically talented.
Artist: *smiles shyly and walks away*
Have you ever experienced it before? Or see it happening before?
Well, just this two years, I have been "into" art a lot and I'm quite enjoying the experience of it. So during my free time, I like to draw, paint, sketch. Basically anything to do with art. And in that process, I have learned and understood why artists like to "reject" people's praises. Because I found myself doing the exact same thing: waving.
So the process of my drawing goes like this: first I sketch, then I outline, then I colour and blend. And of course, I give my best in every drawing I do. But sometimes, things dont exactly go your way and oops I drew a line too hard and I cant erase the mark off, whoops I outlined the wrong part, uh oh I coloured this a shade too dark and now I cant blend properly. Mistakes happen and what do you do? You try to cover up your mistake and "recover" your drawing. Make a feature out of that wrong sketch line and outline, colour everything a shade darker. Anything to cover up your mistake and rescue your drawing.
And then you are done. You put it up, take a step back and you a)survey b)admire c)criticise. Most of the time, I do a combination of all three, I survey my drawing then I admire the parts which I'm satisfied with and lastly I criticise it and see how I can improve. And this is also the part where I finalised if I'm truly satistfied with my work-the assessment whether the "mistake" is noticable.
So if the "mistake" is noticable and I can see it, I just instantly get unsatisfied with my work and if I show it to people, I would just be like, "Nah it's not nice. I'm not happy with it." But other people might have overlooked the "mistake" or they just didnt observe enough to notice the mistake. But I on the other hand, knows where I made the mistake and actually severely criticises it.
And this is perhaps one of the reasons why artists like to reject people's praises. I'm not saying all artists do that because of this reason but it's just my experience and why I reject people's praises.
So haha gosh. WIP no longer stands for work in progress but waving in process. #WIP

So recently, I read this newspaper article about hazing in US universities. And for those of you who dont know, I quote from the article, "Hazing is a practice in which a person is subjected to humiliating, degrading and abusive treatment by members of a group he or she hopes to join." Sounds quite scary doesnt it? This is the first time I read and knew about such a thing that happens in a country half the globe away and it is sad to know that somewhere out there in the world, such things are happening. So I did my research and I read about more incidents of hazing and I realised that the students in the US, they probably dont see the harm and the dangers "despite the number of deaths linked to it".
And a lot of times, I think that you know, say for this case, from my postition, I see how hazing is wrong and it's such a horrible practice. But maybe from a student of US universities position, they see it as a normal thing, like it's part of their culture, everyone's doing it. So, to them, maybe they dont see the severity of it and they dont think it's wrong. And this leads me to think about the literature lessons I had this year.
We were learning about African Americans and we were doing To Kill A Mockingbird and reciting poems like Strange Fruit. We learned about the discrimination against African Americans and lynchings. And similarly, I also thought about how wrong lynching was and how could people just discriminate against the African Americans just because of their skin colour. But putting myself in that postition that time period, I dare not gurantee that I would not be prejudiced against the African Americans. Why? Because everyone is doing it. And I'm not the kind of person who is strong enough to stand up for what I think is right. Or perhaps, maybe at that time, I wouldnt even regard my doings as wrong.
And so I'm not quite sure what the conclusion of today's blog post is. But I think maybe we should all not be too quick to judge.
Thanks for reading my blog post and if you have any thoughts and opinions you would like to share with me, please feel free to comment below. :D
