Yay guys! Today I'm gonna showcase a card that I made! And it's honestly been so long since I designed a new card and I was really happy when this idea came over me. And even happier when I get my hands on doing the card!

So here are some of the materials needed to make this card:
Black Paper (or whatever colour you want as the base of the card)
Glue
Scissors/Penknife
White Paper (or whatever colour you want as the complementary)
Cardboard (the thin one like those behind the foolscap paper)
Pencil, Eraser
Ruler
Black Marker
Paint, Water, Brush
Colour Pencils, Sharpener

First start with your black paper.

Fold the black paper into half and put it aside.

Draw up the letters that make up your sentiments on a piece of cardboard. In my case, it's HAPPY BIRTHDAY. The cardboard should be thin, like those cardboard attached behind your foolscap paper. Each letter should take up 3cm (length) by 2cm (width).

Here's a guide (in 2 pics) on the length and measurements of the different letters.

Next cut out your block letters.

Paint them with acrylic paint (or actually whatever paint you wish to use is fine). Choose the colours wisely. The paint you use should be a complementary colour of the colour of your base card. You can also be more creative by adding patterns to the various letters (dots, stripes, etc). In my case, I chose bright pink. Put them aside.

Draw whatever you want as the subject of the card! In my case, I drew Flower from Bambi.

So he looks a bit weird here but he will look better in colour, for now, he just looks like a thirsty squirrel. Now, what you would want to do is to draw a border around your drawing so that there will be an outline when you paste it on your card. Next what I did was to arrange the drawing as well as the letters on the card to see that they can all fit in nicely.

After making sure, you can go ahead and colour your drawing. And cut it out along the borders that you have drawn earlier.

So actually what happened was that I fold my white paper into quarters before drawing Flower in one quarter. And now when I cut Flower out with his border, I only cut the first two layers out. But this kind only works if you have some part of the drawing that somehow allows the paper to be cut out attached. Like in my case, there's the bottom part where it's exactly one straight line, where I use the foldings of the paper as my base. (Sorry I know I might be a little unclear here). But anyway, I guess it will be okay if it's only one layer. So now what I did was to trace Flower's silhouette onto my card. Right on the spot where it is going to be placed.

I arranged the letters once more to be really sure that everything can fit in properly. So after I'm really sure, I cut that tracing out of the black paper, so now there's a hole in the card in the shape of the silhouette of Flower.

Next what I did was to paste the letters onto the card. But I wanted to arrange the letters to see which arrangement has a better effect or looks nicer.

So I glue the letters on in arrangement (2). And I just stick my squirrel onto the other two quarters of white paper so that it has that rectangular backing. I guess it will be okay if you just stick it onto another sheet of white paper. (Note. Remember to cut it out such that the drawing will now have a rectangular backing. Next, you will have to paste the paper on the inside of the card such that the drawing can be seen. Stick it on the other side of the cover of the card so that the inside of your card can be used for well wishes.

Now take your piece of white paper (or your complementary coloured paper).

Now fold it into half and draw a rectangle on one side of the paper. Draw it such that it is not too close to the edges and the corners are curved instead of straight.

Now cut out this rectangle. You should get two identical rectangles.

Paste these two rectangles on the inside of the card so that you can write your well wishes on them.

Few days ago was Valentines' Day!!! And remember what I told you all about celebrating Valentines' Day in an all girls school. Well, I discovered that while sure everyone gets something, the present, gifts and cards are also an indication of your popularity or social circles. So for me, since I dont have much friends naturally I get lesser stuff then other people who (i swear) knows practically everyone in the level. Everywhere they go, they can say hello to someone. But then again, it's like a whole new experience, I dont think you really see this in a mixed school. I wonder how it's like to celebrate Valentines' Day in an all boys school.

On Friday, in conjunction of Valentines' Day, we had hearts and hugs day in my school. Which I found kind of bleh. Cause all the peer support leaders in my school goes around hugging people. Apparently they say they want to share the love with other people but I think it's more like they have the desperate need to feel loved. Haha not a big fan of this event but this year they came out with a photo booth which I found kind of interesting and fun since there's props and stuff we can pose with.

And apparently it is Valentines' Day and its the day to share love and make everyone feel loved. <3
I crocheted hearts for everyone in my class as well as a couple of friends, seniors and juniors. Because for the past years, I have been receiving only and never giving. And today I truly understood whatever they say about "Giving is joy". And it's definitely awesome to be able to walk around school with a bag in your hands and giving out stuff to people you know, and maybe acquaintances. So yup, share the spirit of giving!!!

On a side note, I did this heart crochet project (http://stitch4ever.com/2013/02/01/fun-little-crochet-heart-applique/?heart-applique) at about the start of February and my initial aim is 45. (But I think I did a lot more than that.) And for this entire project I only spend 4 dollars. And a ton of my time. XD Cause I bought red yarn from Daiso which costs only 2 dollars and I bought 2 so 4 dollars. I prefer Daiso yarn every time I crochet appliques and 2d stuff because they are kinda cheap, and because they are cheap, the quality aint that good, but it's also because the quality aint good that the yarn is hard and firm (or rather not as soft) and this makes it perfect for appliques because you want your appliques to be firm and not all soft and wobbly. So yup main message is that DAISO YARN IS BEST IF YOU WANT TO CROCHET APPLIQUES!!! On a side note, one ball of yarn can crochet 26 hearts.

And then I'm actually not very satisfied with the way my hearts turned out. Because every time I crochet, the first half of it would be perfect like a nice heart but then whenever I complete it, I would notice that the second half of the heart is lopsided. Here's a picture of it:

And I  honestly cant get what's wrong with it. I tried to work with my tension. Equal strength on both halves of the heart. And I even tried doing 12 stitches into the magic ring instead of 11 so that it wouldnt be too squeezed on the second half. But meh, it didnt work. But at least if you look at it from the front, it doesnt look so bad but once you turn it around, you can see the difference so badly. Aish. If anyone knows what's the problem, please do tell me. Sorry guys, I haven't updated for so long.(does anyone even read this blog?) But anyway, I'm having a crisis at home. My grandma has colon cancer and my grandpa has lung infection. Yes they are a couple. My grandpa's fine now but my grandma's situation is just deteriorating. Somewhere along the way, she contracted lung infection too. Much more serious than my grandpa's. They had to send her to ICU, give her an oxygen mask and when that fails, poke a tube right onto her chest, an oxygen tube. My mum is busy because she had to care for my grandma and I'm busy cause I have to care for home housework etc. And not to mention school work. Stress is one thing. Being emotionally affected is another. For one thing, I have never actually experience death all my life. Well I did when I was 7, I went to my first funeral,my great grandmother's, which is the mother of my sick grandmother. But then again, I didn't knew her well, only visited her once in her life (or my life). To add on, she's the only grandma I ever knew, my paternal grandma passed on before I was born. Hardly ever having an encounter with death, let alone cancer, I didn't know what to expect. But well, maybe I will elaborate on this in another blog post if I feel like it. Just wanna let you all know what my life is like now.

But well today we had bcl (beyond classroom learning) in school on the MBTI personality test. Go check it out. My personality is Introvert iNtuition Thinking Judging. I always thought I was feeling kind of person not a thinking one. But do go try it out, I heard its pretty accurate.

Which I found quite interesting because we are now learning about the way we show love and our preferred method of receiving love. My highest to lowest was quality time, physical touch, words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts. So yup, go try it out too.

Today I got a windfall. Or what I consider a windfall. I collected 18 pieces of black paper from the class recycling bin!!! How could anyone even want to recycle black paper? Black paper is like the best paper ever to make cards (at least to me). Its like gold to me. But anyway, it made me damn happy to be able to have these black paper. For free some more.

And recently, I have been crocheting hearts for Valentine's Day. To give to my class and some friends. I mean for the past two years in a girls school, we celebrate a totally different Valentine's Day. We give each other chocolates, notes, folded hearts, sweets, cards etc. And the thing here is its given to everyone. No one is excluded. Its like if you are in a mixed school, people will give only to the opposite gender whom they are crushing on. Then there will be people who feel excluded because they didnt receive anything. But here in our school, everyone gets something. Which I thought was really nice because it makes everyone feel loved. :D

Haha and that's the end of my blog post. At least I end it on a high note. :)
