Blog Post #21
Blog Post #21
Hey guys! It's been such a long time since I blogged anything cause I have been busy with work and stuff. But I'm back again to share my latest crochet project!
I have been working on this project for quite a long time as I have been using pockets of free time each day to work on it. It is a Kerokeroppi amigurumi!
Here's the link to the pattern: http://littleyarnfriends.com/post/40495014677/crochet-pattern-lil-kerokeroppi.
I just found it one day while surfing the net and I thought it was pretty cute so I decided to make it. At first, I didnt really have anyone in mind but gradually, I decided I could give it to my mum. So I did.
And here's a picture of it:

Some challenges I faced during this project was number one lol laziness to go get felt. As this project needed pink felt cheeks and black felt eyeballs, I was supposed to go get some but I was too lazy to get it so I decided to crochet them instead.
I worked out that for the eyes: Work a magic ring and crochet 6 single crochet in it. (6)
Increase in every single crochet (12)
Slip stitch in next stitch (12)
This size would be perfect for the eyeballs. One thing I noticed was that it could get quite hard to sew the eyeballs into the eyes so if your sewing isnt top notch like mine isnt, felt would definitely be a more ideal choice as it is easier. If you noticed carefully, the eyeball on the right is a little lopsided due to my sewing. So try to get felt if you can! It took a couple of tries to get the eyeballs right. I had to redo several times.
Second thing was about the cheeks.
I worked out that for the cheeks: Work a magic ring and crochet 6 single crochet in it. (6)
Slip stitch in next stitch (6)
Of course I think felt would be a better choice for this too, even though I didnt have the chance to try it out because I didnt have pink yarn at home or even if I did, I didnt have enough space.
Third thing to take note would be while sewing the eyes, sew the bottom half of the eyes to the top of the head such that the eyes are kinda protruding out of the head. Mine was too low so it kinda didnt leave much space for the smile and the cheeks.
Fourth thing to remember is not to overstuffed the eyes. The eyes are kinda supposed to be flat and big, kind of like a disc shape. You dont want to overstuff it and make it into a ball like thing which you can squish. Which I did and the eyes are over protruding which does makes it look a little weird. And even though the instructions did mention not to overstuff, I still did. T.T
Fifth thing was that my smile was lopsided and more of like a v-shape. So I guess to avoid this, you should have a longer smile that achieves a u-shape. Centre of the smile should be aligned with the centre of the two eyes. That should be a good gauge.
Sixth thing was i didnt really know how to decrease my stitches properly such that it is inconspicuous. So at the neck area, it looks a little unsightly. And for the legs, it was also rather unsightly, but I positioned them face down as the contact area so it cannot be seen. But well, if you guys do know how to decrease it neatly, do share your tips and tricks with me.
Basically, I had a lot of fun doing this amigurumi and it's totally worth a try! Go check out Little Yarn Friends' pattern on Kerokeroppi cause i think it's really cute and pretty easy to make (except the assembling part which I have a bit of problem on).
I have learned a lot through this project such as my sewing skills and I hope you guys would be able to make better kerokeroppis than i could with my tips and tricks.
Bye guys and see you till the next blog post! :)
